Week of April 13 - 19, 2009

Monday, April 13
Moon in Sagittarius
We start the week with another all day Moon in Sagittarius. Recall that Sag is a restless spirit, burning with optimism and eager for adventure and stimulation. The happy-go-lucky Archer is full or verve and physical energy. Ruled by Jupiter, the biggest planet in the solar system, life takes on an expansive and larger than life quality. Each month when the moon in is Sag for 2 ½ days, we get a burst and taste of this contagious and lofty energy. About the only thing that can go wrong is a bit of over optimism, over indulgence and impulsiveness leading to irresponsible behavior or the belief that nothing can go wrong. Think of the fool’s paradise that leads to extreme risk taking, like the gambler throwing it “all it” on that “sure bet.”

For most of us, however, we’ll still have the “farm” when the day is over and should feel at least a bit more optimistic than on most days, notwithstanding a stewing mix between the Moon, Mercury and Saturn. We might be in the mood for spontaneous adventure (moon is Sag), but our sense of duty and obligation (Saturn), combined with our perceived need to think things through slowly and carefully (Mercury in Taurus), could lead to conflict. Balancing our need for freedom and excitement with our sense of responsibility and taking care of business may be a bit of a challenge today.

Neptune and Mars are also squaring off with Mercury, beginning with creative ideas and compassionate conversation (Neptune/Mercury) that eventually meet up with rapidly spiraling changes and impatient people (Mars). The Sag moon can be quick to judgment. Fueled with Mars impatience, you might find yourself verbally “spilling the beans” before they’ve had time to cook.

We’ve all seen the bumper stickers that read, “I’d rather be _________(fill in the blank: fishing, sailing, surfing.)” Today could feel like one of those days.

Affirmation for the day:
The Universe is a never ending source of inspiration, abundance, faith and truth.

Tuesday, April 14
Moon in Sagittarius/Capricorn
If Mars, Saturn and Neptune pestering Mercury weren’t enough yesterday, Uranus, the planet that enjoys shocking us with unexpected surprises decides to get in on all the action today, in a way that can often leave us feeling like our nervous system has been overloaded and in danger of short-circuiting, creating a panic. It is also possible that Uranus (the rebel genius) will help us to think outside of the box and reach for unconventional and revolutionary ways to attack old problems. I like to refer to Uranus as the rut-buster. This rebellious and unpredictable planet that rotates in a sideways orbit is there to shock us into change, with total disregard concerning its methodology.

The moon remains in optimistic Sag most of the day, assisting us to see the glass as half-full until 7:28 tonight (Hawaiian Standard Time), when it slips into stoic Capricorn, the sign of the hermit, wise elder, manager and stern father figure. Take note how your mood becomes more serious and more “earth bound” tonight. You may feel like spending some time in solitude and quiet for the rest of the night. Get some good sleep tonight if you can, as tomorrow morning promises more invention, rebellion and freedom- seeking revolution!

Affirmation for the day:
I always have a choice of at least two paths to follow, and it’s never too late to change the path I’m on.

Wednesday, April 15
Moon in Capricorn
An all day Capricorn moon begs for stability and order today, but some of the other players in the solar system seem to have quite a different idea.

Strap yourself in for a wild ride when Mars (the fiery planet of motivation, drive and desire) at 24 degrees Pisces teams up with Uranus (the planet of shock, sudden surprise and unconventional genius) for the first time in two years. This dynamic duo zaps us with lightning bolts of invention and rebellion. Breaking up or breaking through, or a little bit of both helps to liberate the freedom-seeking non-conformist, who is likely to feel empowered and excited by this explosive connection. Those seeking peace, security and serenity however, may find this unexpected energy to be quite upsetting and unwelcome. In any case, revolutionary changes become possible and novel exciting, out-of-the-box breakthroughs are available today leading to long lasting change for those open to the higher electrically charged resonance of this cosmic combo.

To intensify matters, the moon holds hands with Pluto (the alchemist and transformer) later this morning exposing our fears and forcing surrender and possible power struggles. It may be time to leave the cocoon and shed our tired old skin of subconscious behaviors and drives. Painful as the process can be, the emergence of our beautiful free floating inner butterfly makes it all worth it.

For those of you who would simply prefer to unplug from this supercharged explosion of insight and truth, the soothing energy of a Sun/Neptune connection helps to soften the blow of the forces of Mars, Uranus and Pluto and may just make it possible to accept and allow radical and necessary change to occur without so much resistance.

Affirmation for the day:
When I surrender my fears and trust in myself and others, I remain open to all the magic in the Universe.

Thursday, April 16
Moon in Capricorn
The moon remains in solid, earthy Capricorn for the entire day. A very tough aspect between Mercury (our mind, our thinking, our communication) and Venus (our relationships, our finances) could lead to hurt feelings, hypersensitivity to the comments made by others and awkward conversations leading to tense moments and negative assumptions. If you can find a way to tune into the higher vibrations of this energy, you may be able to discover the connection between our ability to give and receive love and how that relates to our thoughts and thought process and the way we communicate.

Affirmation for the day:
When I am centered in Spirit, I am able to remember that I am never alone and am always deeply connected to the Universal flow of eternity. It is in that place of knowing that I can experience a sense of Peace, a sense of belonging and an acceptance of myself as a perfect and Divinely creative energy in space and time.

Moon In Capricorn/Aquarius
At 3:37 AM, when most of us are still sleeping here in Hawaii, the last quarter Sun-Moon angle of conflict takes place between the “fiery, I want- it- now Aries” in the red corner, facing off with the “strategic, let’s take-our- time and be responsible Capricorn” in the blue corner. The battle between these very different energies may leave us with the feeling that we are hitting our heads against a brick wall ~ or driving with the brakes on. The last quarter moon is actually a reminder of the changes we need to make to resolve conflict and promote our growth. All that’s required here is a bit of synthesis of the two energies. A little motivation combined with perseverance and disciplined, well-planned action can lead to the crystallization of your ideals into solid form and reality, if your concept or project is a valid one. If not, then this frustrating combination might lead you to the realization that it’s time to take out the paper shredder and devise a new plan.

The moon enters the intellectual, open-minded and objective Aquarius this morning at 8:19 AM. The carefully ordered pragmatic Capricornian view of the world expands now and reaches beyond conventional boundaries with the unorthodox, freedom-loving Waterbearer. Aquarius is the inventive genius of the zodiac and the hero rushing in to save the day with fresh new ideas, creativity and a healthy dose of objectivity to smooth out any wrinkles caused by the Sun-Moon conflict served up for breakfast this morning.

Sweetness abounds today, as the sociable, humanitarian side of Aquarius is engaged by an alluring seductive Venus, slinking out of her long 6-week retreat to reawaken our notions of love, pleasure and beauty, not to mention a hopeful boost in our pocketbooks. Allow at least a few days for Venus, the Goddess of Love to fully emerge, find her bearings and synthesize all that she learned during her period of inward contemplation. By next week, we will all begin to learn how this translates in our own life and in the balance in our relationships. What adjustments or new insights can you apply to more fully engage yourself in a newfound harmonious relationship to love, friendship, beauty, peace, serenity, material possessions and money?

Affirmation for the day:
If love is all we ever really need, then we already have it all.

Moon in Aquarius
Ah yes. Another all day Aquarius moon with no other significant astrological events, finally giving us an opportunity to do nothing more than simply absorb all the shock from the rest of the week and unplug. Aquarius also helps us detach from our feelings, taking things a bit less serious emotionally. And after all the unpredictable and often destabilizing roller coaster ride of cosmic weather this week, who couldn’t benefit from a little healthy and much needed detachment. The only possible pitfall to this emotionally cool character is the effect it may have on those more sensitive souls, who are in need of constant warm and fuzzy coddling andattention.

Affirmation for the day:
There is nothing I cannot learn.

Sunday, April 19
Moon in Aquarius/Pisces
Happy Birthday, Taurus! Taurus understands and is in tune with the rhythm and flow of nature. This Venus-ruled builder, gardener, chef and musician is able to consult with the wisdom in the trees, sway with the gentleness of the breeze, embrace the warmth of the sun on their face and the feel of fresh dirt in their hands. Taurus is a natural farmer and builder and is deeply in tune with the physical realm here on Earth. Taureans understand that we do not need to prove ourselves, because we are already enough. Since the Bull is in no hurry, they can sometimes be perceived as lazy, selfish, overindulgent and greedy. ~ greedy because Venus, the ruling planet of Taurus also governs the material world of belongings, possessions, fine objects, clothing and money. The shadow side of Taurus can be seen overindulging in appetizing sensual pleasures, with too much wine, women and song, while becoming overly possessive of their belongings and desperately attached to their surroundings and sense of security through the acquisition of external material possessions. Nonetheless, Taurus can be highly productive, fiercely loyal, steady and reliable.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign who welcomes peace and serenity, but before we can celebrate the Sun’s entrance into the pleasure seeking world of the Bull, we have to deal with a cranky little squabble between Mercury and Pluto. This stinging little connection tends to focus on the flaws and make nasty little comments. An effective use of this energy might involve a penetrating conversation or a piercing insight that eliminates superficiality and the need for social niceities ~ maybe like the kind of candid cut-to-the-chase conversation you might have with your kids about the realities of drug and alcohol abuse and unprotected sex.

The moon swims into Pisces tonight at 7:55 PM, adding a forgiving, compassionate and spiritually aware element that provides a healthy and complimentary balance to the Taurus Sun. Funny how people from your past seem to come into the present while the moon is in Pisces. Dreams may be rich tonight and there may be a desire to escape the cold cruel world and enter a more pleasant and altered state of consciousness (you know, minus the drugs and alcohol that you just told your kids to refrain from). Meditation, music, dance, the cinema or a rich fantasy novel can give you that escape without the hangover in the morning.

Affirmation for the day:
My dreams are the gateway to the unconscious desires of my soul. Dreaming is a natural way to tune into and find the pieces of the puzzle that are missing, so that the full and complete picture can emerge.
